Wegovy

Adults who are obese or overweight and have at least one weight-related comorbidity (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol) can use Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4 mg), a prescription drug, to manage their weight over the long term. It is a more recent drug for weight loss that has FDA approval.

Its goal is to assist obese individuals in losing weight as part of a comprehensive weight management program that also includes behavior change, exercise, and food.

Mechanism of Action: Wegovy decreases hunger and raises energy expenditure by promoting the release of specific neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly norepinephrine.

Usage: Because of the possibility of tolerance development, it is usually given for brief periods of time (a few weeks to a few months).
